Attorney General Becerra Announces New Criminal Charges Against West Hollywood Man Who Posed as Licensed Nurse

SACRAMENTO – California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and the California Department of Consumer Affairs today announced new charges against Jeremy Daniel Griffin of West Hollywood. He faces 11 felony charges for impersonating a registered nurse in Los Angeles County after having pled no contest to similar charges in Santa Clara County.

“Fraudulently posing as a medical professional is extremely dangerous and invasive to patients seeking necessary medical care,” said Attorney General Becerra. “Patients must trust that they can seek healthcare without being exposed to someone who may cause them harm. At the California Department of Justice we will continue to protect the public from individuals who provide healthcare services without a license and recklessly put lives at risk by participating in unlawful medical practices. This case should serve as a stern reminder: we will continue to enforce the law.”

According to the criminal complaint, the defendant presented falsified documents in a registered nurse’s name to secure a job with a travel nursing company. However, in truth, Mr. Griffin does not hold a license as a registered nurse in California. Previously, he held a license as a licensed vocational nurse, but that license was revoked in 2014 after Griffin was convicted of receiving stolen property and burglary.

In February 2018, the California Attorney General’s Office filed 11 new felony charges against Griffin, including two counts of identity theft, false impersonation, three counts of grand theft, two counts of burglary, and elder or dependent adult abuse. Griffin was also charged with two misdemeanors for using the registered nurse title and practicing, or offering to practice, as a registered nurse. Mr. Griffin pled no contest earlier this year to the Santa Clara County charges. He will be sentenced in that matter on June 22, 2018.
